Library Building Committee
Shaping the Future of Our Library
The Uxbridge Free Public Library is planning for the future, and we need your help! In January 2025, the Town of Uxbridge was awarded $100,000 in state grant funding from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to begin planning and design for a future construction project.
The Town has formed a seven-member Library Building Committee to guide initial planning and design work and to oversee all phases of a future building project. Four seats are open to the general public — three additional seats are for current Library Trustees and the Library Director.
Get Involved
The Library Building Committee meets at least 1-2 times per month, with additional meetings expected during the Planning and Design phase through December 2025/January 2026. In 2025, the committee's priorities include issuing RFPs, selecting an Owner’s Project Manager and architect, and working on design studies for existing and alternative library sites. The committee’s work is expected to continue through 2031, with an anticipated Town Meeting vote in 2028.

About the Committee
What is the Library Building Committee?
The seven-member Library Building Committee will be responsible for guiding the planning, design, and construction of a new or renovated library facility that aligns with the library’s long-term mission and community needs, as identified in the Library's Building Program. Reporting to the Board of Library Trustees—who have custody and management of the library and all town-owned property related to it—the committee collaborates with the Trustees, library staff, and key stakeholders to establish project goals, define its scope and budget, and oversee the selection of an Owner’s Project Manager, architect, and construction team.
Committee members play a vital role in community engagement, ensuring transparency and public input throughout the process. They oversee design, accessibility, and sustainability while ensuring the project remains within budget and securing necessary funding through grants, sponsorships, and donations. The committee monitors construction progress, resolves challenges, and evaluates the completed facility to ensure it meets operational and user needs. Members are expected to actively participate in meetings, decision-making, and advocacy to support the successful completion of the project.
The committee will be composed of seven members, three of whom are the Library Director and representatives of the Board of Library Trustees.
